Intrinsic Motivation and Flow Experience in Primary Art School Pupils

The thesis deals with experiencing flow and intrinsic motivation of pupils at Primary Art School. The aim of the research was to find out the following: to what extent are pupils of Primary Art School intrinsically motivated towards music, to what extent the pupils experience flow while playing a musical instrument and what psychological aspects are related to this type of experience. The target group of respondents represented pupils from musical branch at the age from 11 to 18 (N = 108). The data were obtained from three questionnaires (Flow, Teacher, and Motivation Questionnaire). The first two questionnaires were created for the purpose of this thesis. Motivation questionnaire was translated from English version of SIMS questionnaire (The Situational Motivation Scale). The research proved that pupils of Primary Art School think that they experience flow quite often. Most of the observed variables are significantly related to flow, on the contrary the relationship was less close. The exception was a relationship between flow and intrinsic motivation where closer connection was established. It was not proved that flow experience of Primary Art School pupils relates to participation in any musical groups, range of homework, length of playing musical instruments or gender of the respondents. Heritage of František Sedlák Within Disciplines of Didactics of Music Education and Music Psychology

TITLE: The Heritage of František Sedlák within Disciplines of Didactics of Music Education and Music Psychology. SUMMARY: The thesis deals with life and work of František Sedlák, who is known as a teacher, musicologist, choir conductor and musician. The objective of the thesis is to provide Sedlák's biography and give a thorough overview of all his publications. In his articles, papers and other publications, he writes mainly about musical development of a child, musical abilities and skills, psychology of music, problems of children's singing and didactics of music at primary schools. A separate chapter is dedicated to authentic memories of Sedlák's colleagues, which were collected specially for the purpose of this thesis. There is a CD appended to the thesis, where nearly all Sedlák's articles published in various professional journals can be found together with a few pictures from his life. Therapeutical procedures based on acoustic and communicative material

The aim of this thesis was to explain therapeutic possibilities of sound in all its connections. Sound is described in relation to several disciplines. Initially, sound is presented as an acoustic and psychoacoustic phenomenon, followed by characterization of physiology of auditory system and findings from psychology of music. The focus of the thesis is anchored in the chapter dedicated to healing and corrective effects of sound - the music therapy. After short history context is presented, the characteristics and analysis of contemporary situation are discussed. Several types of sound - noise, music and sound of speech - are studied in their positive as well as negative influence on psychic and physical health of human. Current research is represented by selection of relevant papers (n=9) which are assessed by the criterion of credibility and rigidness of methodology. This aspect is also perceived as an essential one for the future research in the area of sound effect on human psychic and physical health.

The psychological aspects of music in the development of individual

The Work deals with the therapeutic effects of music on mental and somatic component of the individual from the historical and contemporary perspective. There are three musical levels, the psychological, therapeutic and alternative one, whereas the work is based on the Western concept of music. The point of departure is knowledge of music psychology on human perception of music and the structure of musical composition. I use the knowledge of music therapy in applying the music elements on mental, physical and spiritual human level. The superstructure is made by alternative views on using music in a therapeutic context. Special space is devoted to combination of music and the brain and the influence of music on development of cognitive component of human personality.
